The appraisal is the starting line
An appraisal tells you what a practice is worth today. It doesn't tell you what it could be worth in three years. That's where your return lives, and you have to dig for it.
Break it down
Before you make an offer, can you answer these?
- Procedure mix. What's actually being billed, and what's missing?
- The revenue split. How much comes from hygiene versus operative and restorative?
- Provider efficiency. How much does each provider bill per hour, per day?
- The patient base. Who are they, how often do they come in, and what do they need?
- Insurance mix. Which plans make up the practice, and what does that mean for treatment?
The gap most practices miss
Building an efficient schedule, with the right billing codes and the documentation to support them, is one of the most overlooked ways to grow a practice. Same patients, same chairs, more value.
Some of the biggest opportunities sit in the hygiene department. Scheduling, coding and recall habits there can quietly leave revenue on the table, and fixing them is often the fastest win a new owner gets.
