Why five years?
Five years gives us time to get an in-depth view of where your practice is today, and to set clear expectations for where it should be when the sale goes through.
It also leaves room to fix things. Most practices have areas that can be tweaked and cleaned up to maximize an exit. Those changes need time to show up in your numbers.
Who's your buyer?
Different buyers want different things, and pay in different ways.
- A private buyer. Often a dentist buying their first or second practice, looking for a long-term home.
- A corporate buyer. A group adding to a portfolio, with its own terms and expectations.
- Your associate. Already knows your patients and team, which can make for the smoothest transition of all.
Start the conversation early. An associate buyout can take years to structure well, and it's far easier to plan than to improvise.
Asset sale or share sale?
How you sell can matter as much as who you sell to. Asset and share sales each have pros and cons for tax, liability and what you keep at the end. Understand both fully before you commit, and bring your accountant in early.
We work every stream
Private, corporate or associate. Asset or share. We work across all types of transactions, lay out the trade-offs plainly, and prepare you to make the best decision for the next chapter of your life.
